The advantage of our ready cooked full fat linseed meal is that it is ready to add straight away to your horses’ daily feed – no need to boil and prepare the seeds yourself. Linseed meal can help to improve your horse’s coat and condition along with helping to maintain good general health and supple joints. Our Cooked Linseed Meal is low in starch and sugars, so suitable for feeding to laminitic horses and ponies.
Mostly in immature linseeds but occasionally in mature ones, toxic compounds such as diglycosides and monoglycosides can be found. When the plant tissue is damaged and is then placed under certain conditions, these compounds in the presence of enzyme linase, produce hydrocyanic acid. Intake of this can can inevitably cause varying degrees of intoxication (depending on the level of intake, sensitivity etc). High temperature destroys the linase, which means the harmful hydrocyanic acid isn't released when the animal consumes it. Our Cooked Linseed Meal destroys the enzyme linase - meaning it is no longer harmful to animals after consumption.
